On June 7th I will be travelling to Honduras with my daughter, Kara Hartwig, and my parents, David and Sharon Ackley. We are travelling with a group called "Friends United: Teachers Helping Teachers." I have wanted to go to Honduras for as long as I can remember. My parents made their first trip when I was just a baby, over 50 years ago (I stayed back home with my grandparents), and they have made numerous trips since then. I've spent most of my life seeing the pictures and hearing the stories of their travels, and of the beautiful little Honduran children they help. Now I'm finally getting to go too!!!
I am super excited about this trip and decided I wanted to share this awesome opportunity with my students and coworkers back at Trailridge Elementary, and any other friends and family who might be interested in sharing my adventure.
The students and staff at Trailridge have done an incredible job of supporting my mission trip to Honduras. Our students and staff collected almost 4,000 brand new school supplies for me to take on the trip! Wow!!! The Spanish Club wrote pen pal letters for me to deliver to Honduran students, and some of the staff shared math games and activities from different grade levels for me to share with Honduran teachers. Can't wait for the trip to begin!
